Race Gurram sets Boxoffice history with 60 crores collection

The Allu Arjun and Shruti Haasan starrer Telugu action drama, ‘Race Gurram’ ( Race Horse in English) has created history by becoming the fourth biggest Telugu hit of all time with a collection of 60 crores. The Surender Reddy starrer film was released on April 11 in a record number of screens. It is now close to completing 100 days in theaters. Despite contending with other big releases like ‘Manam’ and ‘Vikramasimha’ the film managed to do rock-steady business at the box office. On its way to the record books, ‘Race Gurram’ surpassed the collections of films like, ‘Dookudu’ (Rs 56 cr), ‘Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’ (Rs 52 cr) and ‘Mirchi’ (Rs 48 cr). It is now only behind, Gabbar Singh (Rs 64 cr), ‘Magadheera’ (Rs 78 cr) and ‘Attarintiki Daredi’ (Rs 85 cr).

The film tells the story of two brothers, Lucky (played by Allu Arjun) and Ram (played by Shaam) who are on the opposite sides of the law but are eventually united in the battle against an evil politician, Siva Reddy ( played by Ravi Kishan). The film was praised as an all-round entertainer and Allu Arjun received critical appreciation for his portrayal of lucky. The film’s soundtrack composed by S. Thaman has also become popular.

In 75 days, the film crossed worldwide collection of 60 crores. If it can complete its run for 100 days, it has a strong chance of beating the collections of ‘Gabbar Singh.’ Outside Andhra Pradesh, the film earned Rs 5.10 crores in Karnataka and in Kerala it earned 1.75 crores. The rest of India collections have been around 1.20 crore. Outside India, the collections have been impressive as well. The film has grossed 7.42 crores in the USA. Everyone is now waiting to see how long this fabulous run continues.
