Indian company Hero Moto Corp, the largest two wheeler manufacturer in the world has decided to enter the electric two-wheeler market. While hybrid/electric two wheelers are not yet very popular in the Indian market, a major brand like Hero can change the scenario. Hero’s first electric offering is the ‘Photon’ scooter. It was unveiled at 2014 Auto Expo in New Delhi. At the launch event, Hero Electric CEO Sohinder Gill said that Hero Electric will continue to innovate and develop interesting products for the emerging EV market in India. He said that the company believes the EV market in India has a lot of potential and they are ready to enter the market with full force. He expressed hope that the brand new Hero electric ‘Photon’ scooter will boost the company’s growth in the electric vehicle segment. Other companies have also begun to understand the huge potential electric vehicles have in India because of their low cost and pollution free use. One notable point is that unlike some other electric scooters, the ‘Photon’ will require vehicle registration and driver’s license.
The ‘Hero Photon’ electric scooter will be offered in three attractive body colors- Velvet Black, Vivid Burgundy and Vanilla White. The ‘Photon’ is not just a good looker but also a feature packed electric scooter. Some of the notable features are- telescopic suspensions for the front, aerodynamic body, anti-thief alarm, boost/float charger, two driving modes. Hero says that the ‘Photon’ has a maximum speed of around 45 KMPH. On a single charge it can go up to 50 Km on the Power mode and on the Economy mode, about 80 Km. The ‘Photon’ is powered up with an intelligent charger with built-in memory. It will charge the battery according to its condition, resulting in better efficiency. For safety, there is fire proof wiring harness and a mini circuit breaker.
